We set out to make a walking map for newcomers. The first version had street names, crossings, and the nearest bus stop. It was perfectly accurate and rather quiet.
Then we asked people what they would point out on the way. A tree planted for a birthday. The bakery door that used to be blue. A stretch of pavement where someone always leaves water for dogs.
We kept the practical directions and added a few of the stories. Now the map can get you to the library, with a little more to notice along the way.
